Politics and Porn I don't make a huge deal about my political affiliation on my website. I do mention two things that could be considered political on my About Me page though. One is that I like Mike. The other is a little more obvious, I dislike "George W Bush and his henchmen from hell". There are many, many reasons that I list this two men on my like and dislike sections. I don't offer any reasons or justifications for it any more than I offer reasons of why I like David Sedaris and dislike rotten fruit. Of course these lists could go on and on ad infinitum and really reflect the things that were on the top of my head at the time that I wrote that section.
Still, every now and then I get a nasty email from someone who is miffed about the "strong political statements" made on my website and concerned that I might be alienated a section of my fanbase and practicing poor business by adding a political veiw point to MY site. Mind you it is always . . . 100% of the time . . . a Republican and they are always outraged at my lack of business savey. Well, my site is doing quite well thank you very much!!! To tell you the truth I find it a little offensive that any one who is voting Republican these days is jacking off while looking at me dressed en femme. Go find some Republican crossdresser/transvestite or t-girl/shemale to jack off to!!! Ohhhh . . . that's right you have Ann Coulter ;-)
This rant was all sparked from my latest email assualt:
I was somewhat enjoying your "about me section" on your website until I read your likes and dislikes. This is when I found you to be a little bit pretentious and rude. You are in business - you are selling a product; yourself. In business, one should make every effort to avoid making personal political statements part of a business platform. One never knows who will become offended resulting in a lost customer. I respect everyone’s political viewpoint; you should too by not making "politics" a part of your "sexually" oriented business.
I am Republican and I voted Republican. This doesn't mean that I agree with everything President Bush has done, but I have respect for the Office and abstain from disrespect towards the other party. Unlike our Congressmen and Senators, I operate from a politically mature perspective.
It is ok to be politically naive as you appear to be; just watch Fox News, listen to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and my favorite, Michael Savage and you will become informed. Michael Moore ? You've got to be kidding ! His "work" has been discredited and proved many times over to be brimming with half truths and bunk – half the Story, and only the half that is detrimental to Republicans. Besides, I find him revolting to even listen to, let alone look at.
The bottom line is, really, that neither of us really knows anything that happens in the White House, in Congress, or in the Senate. We rely on what we read, see on the news, or hear on the radio. So who is right ? Me of course !
My response was this:
Sorry to hear that you were put off by learning about my political viewpoint. But I do run a "personality based" website and I am in the sex industry. Unfortunately politics and pornography and even sexuality are VERY MUCH connected. This is largely due to conservatives recent efforts to politicize these issues for their own political gain. The truth is a vast majority of Republicans would love to see a website like mine shut down and people like me driven my out of business. I take that a little personal.
Now on my website under likes I list :
Cooking, telemark skiing, most music, red wine, good food, yoga, Michael Moore, good movies, popcorn, gardening, This American Life on PRI, David Sedaris, and of course crossdressing!!!
It is one name in a list of things. I happen to like Michael Moore. I grew up near his hometown of Flint and watch the rapid decline of the auto industry in the '80's. Many of my friends parents worked for GM and were effected by the layoffs. I watched as many of their families were destroyed and many others moved away. My own father worked for a computer company that supplied and maintained their systems. He was finally layed off due to plant closures in the auto industry. I gained repect for Michael Moore after seeing Roger and Me and his effort to show America and the rest of the world the reality of the impact that a few CEOs can have on a community.
I find it interesting that you and many other conservatives get so bent out of shape over the mere mention of his name though. I think it says a lot about how effective the Rebublican sound machine really is at demonizing someone. I don't necessarily agree with all of Michael Moores viewpoints or methods, and was dissapointed when he backed Nader in the 2000 elections. I do think his heart is in the right place though.
Under my dislikes I list: George W Bush and his henchmen from hell, pretentious and/or rude people, rotten fruit.
I'll use a quote from YOUR email to discribe W - "His "work" has been discredited and proved many times over to be brimming with half truths and bunk – half the Story" and half may actually be stretching it . . . quarter is more like it. See Woodward's latest among a long list of others. I have respect for the office too but none for the man. He has disrespected his own office and the trust given to him by people like you and me.
As for Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage and crew I haven't the stomach for them. Try listening to Ed Shultz or Thom Hartman once. They don't screen their calls as much as your conservative buddies. Read a little Chomsky.
And finally, I wanted to relay a little story of something that happened to me just yesterday that ties into this whole topic. I was on the road shooting a zombie porn film with my girlfriend over the weekend and we stopped into this little mom and pop greasy spoon on the side of the highway for a bight to eat. We walked in the door and were struck by the red, white, and blue tables and wall paper and decor. The place had posters of eagles with flags behind them, wolves with flags draped over them, support our troops banners and even the huge George Patton print framed above the mantle. We could tell that these were some patriotic son of a guns!!! We sat down, order our food. Had a great meal . . . enjoyed every bit of those biscuits and gravey ;-) When we got up we saw there was a book shelf above our table. Surprise!!! There on the shelf was none other than Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and even David Limbaugh (who was a guest on Thom Hartman the other day by the way) and right in the middle of it the Biggest book on the shelf, none other than the HOLY BIBLE itself. We both kind of giggled about it and thought what kind of wingnut owns this joint!!! It was funny to think that this person held these people with as much asteem and dignity as the good Lord Himself!!! The point is the food was good and we would go back to eat there any time.
The great thing about owning a small business or any business is that you can make your own decisions based on what is really important to you. At times I think my site is not political enough. I want people to know for instance that I support gay marriage. That I do want to keep abortion safe, rare and legal. I think we should have a middle class. I am pro union. I would like to see universal health care. I don't think invading Iraq was the right decision. I do think the War in Iraq has been completely mismanaged and has resulted in the unwarranted and unforgivable loss of lives of American soldiers and astronomical loss of lives of COUNTLESS Iraqis civilians. I think Cindy Sheehan and every other parent of a soldier who gave their life in Iraq has every right to be pissed off just as much as they have the right to feel proud. I think this president has been dishonest and I think history will remember him as one of the weakest presidents ever. I certainly will.
Sooo . . . that's all I have to say about that (not really I'm just starting to make myself ill). I could go on and on and on about my political views and all the justifications for them but it does get tiresome at some point. Just don't tell me how to run my business or to keep my opinions to myself. I know exactly what I'm doing and will do things my way in the end. So there :-)~~

You may also want to mention that GW Bush is for the criminalization of male intamcy as he stated when he insisted that a law outlawing it be kept on the books in Texas. The Supreme Court narrowly struck it down with strong opinions written by Thomas and Scalia. Butt-fucking illegal? Don't you have a country to run?
As for Michael Moore, his work has NOT been discredited, in fact a large legal team triple checked every line of Farenheit 911 before it was released. That film does what scares Republicans- it ASKS QUESTIONS.
There's not really any good reason for Republicans to like Bush either. He's pursuing the construction of an American empire. He's against the rights of individual states (see gay marriage and Terry Sciavo) and he's not fiscally conservative (he turned the country's largest ever budget surplus into the country's largest ever deficit).
Bravo! I just loves me some republican concern troll.
Well, I guess you're preaching to the converted here, since I often blog about politics and nothing shiny. Hell, I've even turned away Republicans from my chatroom. Hey, if GW and Dick Shoot Em in the Face Cheney can screen their campaign appearances, I figure I have every right to screen my business.
Bottom line, it's your business and you can conduct if how you see fit. Perfect response to that asswipe would have been "Freedome isn't free." Heh.
Those fellas are nearly as irrational about Michael Moore as they are Bill Clinton, aren't they?
Please continue speaking out! I wish more of our customers cared as much about the loss of the writ of habeus corpus as they seem to care about jerking off.
