Only in Brazil And maybe a few other places but . . .
I just saw this article about Patricia Araujo, a transsexual model who is a pretty big name in the Brazilian porn scene stealing the fashion show in Rio.
I've always thought that she was really stunning. She's one of a few Brazilian transsexuals that I can put a face to a name. She's been featured on sites like Brazilian Transsexuals and Shemales From Hell just to name a few and has been in numerous video productions.
I thought it was funny though how everyone is so focused on her being transsexual and NOT on the fact that she is basically a porn star. If this was a natal female model who was a PORN STAR I can't help but wonder what the reaction would be. Maybe it wouldn't be a big deal on the Brazilian scene but I have a feeling it would play out a little differently here in the states. Of course the whole thing would have played out differently if it were fashion week in New York. It will be interesting to see where her career goes from here. I wish her all the best!
Isis on ANTM I guess I would be somewhat remiss if I failed to comment a little on the inclusion of a transgendered model(Isis) on this cycle of America's Next Top Model.
I have to admit that I felt a little uneasy when I first heard that she would be competing. My first reaction was wow ANTM's rating must really be slipping and Tyra must be doing this just to spark a little controversy in an effort to boost viewership. I felt a little sorry for this poor girl who was going to be held up as a sacrificial lamb just to appease the ratings gods. Maybe that is the case, who knows. I guess the point is who cares what the reason is, there's going to be a transgendered model on ANTM!!! And that is not only groundbreaking for the show it is also another step in raising people's awareness. Apparently there was a transsexual (Claudia Charriez) in an earlier cycle who was disqualified for not being born genetically female. So somewhere along the way the rules must have changed.
After seeing the first episode it was clear to me that Isis could hold her own with the other catty bitches in the house. Like ShaRaun (one of the 3 Brittneys this cycle) who was taunting her while she did her shoot and kept referring to her as a drag queen. Ironically, she was the first one eliminated. HAHA!
I thought the little interview with Nigel Barker was pretty funny, especially at the end when he said something like there's definitely something different about her and gave her a weird almost creepy stare as she walked out. I also thought Clarke's little spiel about the difference between being close minded and "traditional" was pretty funny too. Beating the shit out of transgendered people isn't close minded it's just tradition . . . what eva.
I think Isis's picture from the shoot was one of the best. She looked like she actually understood what she was trying to convey and delivered. A lot of the other models were a bit clueless. Frankly was a little disappointed that Tyra didn't call her first.
I was actually surprised to find out that she is pre-op. For some reason I was thinking she was post-op. I like that she said that she is there simply to follow her own dream and not for some other agenda or cause. I also like that she didn't shy away from talking about being trans either. She has to know what she represents to the trans community, weather she wants to be a spokesperson for it or not.
Speaking of being a spokesperson, I wonder how Cover Girl and Seventeen Magazine feel about potentially being represented by a t-girl?
